Arch of Sergii

The Arch of Sergii is a Roman triumphal arch at the eastern gate of the old town, raised by the Sergii family in the late first century BC. It is free to walk through at any hour and still frames the start of the main shopping street. James Joyce lived a short walk away and a statue of him now stands on the nearby lane. The drawback is that it is a single monument on a busy pedestrian street: five minutes covers it, and there is no interior to enter.
