Zerostrasse

Zerostrasse is the underground tunnel network cut by the Austro-Hungarian army beneath Pula's central hill during the First World War. It was built to shelter the population and to connect the military barracks and hospitals without exposing anyone to air attack. Today you walk the cool, dim corridors and see a small exhibition on the city's wartime history. Entry is €7 for an adult and €3 for children, students and over 65s, with last entry 75 minutes before closing. The drawback is plain: it is a tunnel, so beyond the passages themselves and the modest display there is nothing to see, and the fixed route takes about thirty minutes.
