Pula’s nightlife surprises people. It shouldn’t: this is a university town and a working port, which means bars that exist for residents, not for a ten-week season. The scene splits into three: the old town for drinks, the harbour edge for the alternative crowd, and Verudela for the summer resort circuit. Here’s how a night out here actually works.
Uljanik
Start with the one venue with a genuine reputation beyond Croatia. Club Uljanik has run since the 1960s on the rise above the harbour, and it remains the region’s alternative anchor: live bands, rock and metal nights, DJ sets, and a big open terrace in summer with the shipyard cranes glowing across the water. Nothing about it is polished, which is precisely why it has outlived every trend-chasing competitor. Check their programme before going; week nights outside summer can be quiet.
Bars in the old town
The lanes between the Forum and the Arch of Sergii hold most of Pula’s bar life. The pattern locals follow: coffee terraces turn into evening bars around 8pm, and the same square you had breakfast on serves you rakija at midnight. Portarata square and the streets off Sergijevaca are the densest stretch. Expect casual standing-room bars, a couple of craft beer spots and wine bars pouring Istrian malvazija by the glass. Prices are gentle by coast standards.

Verudela in summer
From June to September the energy moves seaward. The resort zone on Verudela runs beach bars into the night, E&D lounge above the rocks does DJ sets with sea views, and the beach bars at Hawaii and Ambrela hold evening sessions in peak weeks. This is the most tourist-facing slice of Pula nightlife, and also the easiest: everything is walkable between hotels.
Be warned that the club end of the Verudela scene turns over quickly. Venues open under one name, close, and reappear under another between seasons, so a place recommended in a two year old blog post may not exist. Ask at your hotel or look at what has posted an event in the last fortnight rather than trusting a list.
Arena nights

Fort Punta Christo, the Austro-Hungarian fortress on the coast north of the city, has hosted electronic music festivals for well over a decade and is the reason a certain kind of visitor comes to Pula at all. Dimensions Festival runs there from 27 to 31 August 2026. Organisers and lineups shift from year to year, so check the fort’s current programme for your dates, and book accommodation early because festival weeks empty the city’s beds.
When venues get busy
- Before 10pm: terraces and wine bars. Clubs are empty.
- Midnight: bars peak in the old town.
- After 1am: Uljanik, Aruba and the seasonal clubs take over. Croatian nights run late.
- Off-season: the old town bars and Uljanik carry on; the Verudela scene largely closes between October and May.
Is Pula good for nightlife?
