The Pula Beach Access Index compares seven documented beaches using the same practical fields: shore entry, shade, facilities, parking, accessibility and dog access. It is designed for choosing a beach, not declaring a winner. A blank or “not recorded” result means the current Pulsko record does not support the claim. It does not mean the feature is absent.

Best documented for step-free access
Ambrela, Hawaii Beach and Valkane are the three records that currently list accessibility. That label alone is not enough for every traveller. It does not specify gradients, surface transitions, accessible toilets, transfer equipment or independent water entry.
Treat these three as a shortlist for further checking, not a guarantee. Contact the relevant venue or tourism authority before relying on a particular facility. The next version of this index will separate route-to-shore access from access into the water.
Best documented for families
Ambrela has the strongest current family record because it combines a gently shelving pebble entry with changing facilities, refreshments and a seasonal lifeguard. Hawaii Beach also records family suitability and extensive facilities, though its popularity means crowd levels are the trade-off.
Stoja and Valovine require more care because their records describe rocky entry. Swim shoes help with comfort but do not turn an uneven entry into an accessible one. Compare the broader options in our family beaches guide.
Beaches with recorded dog access
Hidrobaza and Valovine explicitly record dog-friendly access. Valovine combines this with pine shade and forest-edge parking, though parts of the water entry are rocky. Hidrobaza has a longer shoreline but little shade and few recorded comforts, so owners need to bring water and cover.

Shade and heat
Gortanova Vala records natural shade, while Valkane and Valovine record pine shade. Hidrobaza explicitly records little shade. The remaining entries are marked as not recorded rather than guessed from photographs or general knowledge.
Shade moves during the day and pine cover may sit behind the swimming area rather than over it. In July and August, bring independent cover even when a beach is listed as shaded. Our Pula summer guide covers timing and heat planning.
Facilities and self-sufficiency
Ambrela and Hawaii have the broadest recorded facility sets. Stoja follows with food, toilets, showers and diving services. Valkane records cafes, showers and recreation. Gortanova Vala, Hidrobaza and Valovine require more self-sufficiency based on the present records.
“Extensive” is an editorial grouping, not a quality score. It describes the number of facility types recorded. It says nothing about queues, cleanliness, seasonal availability or price.
Methodology
Version 1.0 was compiled on 21 August 2026 from the seven beach entity records in Pulsko’s content collection. The index uses only fields or statements already present in those records. It does not infer accessibility from a flat-looking photograph, assume dogs are banned when no dog policy is recorded or convert a general family description into a safety guarantee.
The downloadable CSV preserves the more cautious values used during compilation. Each row names its source record so changes can be audited. Editorial labels mean:
- Extensive facilities: several types of changing, food, toilet, rental or supervised service are recorded.
- Good facilities: multiple useful services are recorded, but the set is narrower.
- Limited: few or no substantial visitor facilities are recorded.
- Not recorded: the source record does not provide enough evidence for a yes or no.
Corrections and contributions
This index becomes more valuable when gaps are closed with evidence. Send corrections through the process described in our editorial policy. Useful contributions include a dated photograph of an entrance, an official accessibility notice or a current operator page. We will not convert an unverified message into a definitive access claim.
